Burnage Parkrun 2019

September 28th 2019

5 km run

I've been having a lot of fun parkrun touristing recently, so whilst up north(ish) for a friend's housewarming, we all decided to do the most local parkrun. Based on a riverside section near the rugby club, it wasn't the most interesting or inspiring course, but it was nice and close (incidentally there seem to be loads in Stockport / Manchester!).

We turned up to the start, or tried to, wandering around a fair bit until 09:01 when a huge number of people arrived. A bit bizarre but a very short briefing later and we were off! I'd started (without buggy, daddy's turn today) middle of the pack, mainly because due to the ad-hoc nature of the start I wasn't actually sure which direction we would be running in..... This gave me the change to jog past a few people on the first out and back section, finding some rhythm on the light trail loop before the next out and back. One more loop and out and back section later and I was taking the left hand turn to the finish on the rugby pitch.

This was a comfortably run which had been negatively split. Not my best time on what could be a fast course, but I was pleased to take first lady by a sizeable margin in an admittedly small field. My friends all did really well too!
