7km river (assisted) swim

Very enjoyable friendly swim. River shallower and flow a bit less than in 2019 - wetsuit worn to protect myself from rocks. Swum / sculled / walked the first 2km with Ria.

17 degrees in the water.

November 17th 2018 5 km run Feeling pretty heavy with baby and added-fat weight (15kg! - see below for me at my most whale-like the day before giving birth) I shuffled my way up what felt like a huge hill to the start of the course, with a few diversions where I failed to read google maps. Arriving just on time, I set off and watched what seemed like a stream of runners speed off without me. The course was not particularly friendly to my condition, being hilly and wholly tarmac. It was three very dull laps, and the bowl-like shape of the park meant I could see exactly how far off the leaders were! I was relieved to finish (a nice uphill end), getting a fair bit of pain in my pelvis by the end of it, and very glad not to be lapped (it was a close call). Halesowen Sprint Tri 2018

April 8th 2018 Sprint Triathlon First tri of the year! Not sure the weather was quite prepared, but I was - new kit and everything. Actually untested kit, something I try to avoid but given this was only a sprint I thought it would be OK (which thankfully it was). I felt unusually nervous at the start, probably because I hadn't done a tri since last July! I made a bit of an error by jumping in the pool too, rather than letting myself in gently. It was so deep I didn't reach the bottom, and water gushed up my nose. Therefore I started my race spluttering a little, eventually calming down to produce a fairly poor swim. Out in transition I decided gloves were the way forward. The right decision but this slowed me down yet again. However, I was soon off on the bike and immediately confused by the lack of signage. Outlaw Half 2018

May 20th 2018 1900 m swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run As I ask myself before every race - did I feel prepared? No, not really! Having not been able to run since the marathon five weeks ago due to a hip flexor injury, I went into this race with an overarching sense of "unknown". Would I be able to run? Would I be able to finish? What is running? How do I do it? Aside from training, prep was smooth. I registered on Friday after work, and turned up Sunday morning at 5am to the correct end of the lake (unlike last time's half). My racking spot was very decent (near bike-in and bike-out) and I felt I had all the kit I needed. Multiple loo trips meant zipping-up the wetsuit was as last minute as ever, and before I knew it I was in the water. The start gun went and I set off on the far left (as I had successfully done for the full) into the blinding sunlight. My aim was to stay out of the melee (which I managed), then cut in.
